Mississippi election officials espouse Christian nationalist beliefs, support political violence
Across Mississippi, local election officials express their willingness to see political violence rooted in religious ideology.
It’s never a good thing when elected officials mix politics and religion. But the rise of Donald Trump has shown that Americans are disturbingly willing to combine the two. The combination comes loaded with an emotional volatility that is a harbinger of political violence. I don’t need to perform any rundown of recent right-wing terror attacks in this country, let alone point out the attack on the capitol to illustrate this point. It is obvious that at this stage of American life we are experiencing what can perhaps best be described as a simmering extremist insurgency being carried out in both violent and non-violent ways by our fellow Americans.
This has been obvious for some time but in case you needed further evidence, let’s look at some of the men and women voted into office to carry out election administration through their roles as county election commissioners in Mississippi. Not satisfied with simply believing in the election conspiracies that have infected the minds of millions of Americans, some of the election commissioners I’ve come across in research that you’ll only find at American Doom have taken to religious rhetoric to back up their claims that they’re not just right about the 2020 election being stolen from Trump, but that God is on their side.
