Extremists in Georgia have manhandled elections here

Rules passed by the State Election Board don't come from election professionals, elected officials or lawyers — they come from election denial activists.

Yesterday, the Georgia State Election Board passed a rule that, if it stands, will delay the counting of votes in November. But you already know that because the national political press is now paying close attention to what happens at the SEB. Still, crucial context is missing from much of that reporting.

The simple but not widely understood fact is that it’s not the State Election Board that’s entirely responsible for rules that will cause chaos and benefit Donald Trump in November, it’s the election denial movement. The SEB — ruled as it is by a pro-Trump trio with majority power — is simply a symptom of a much wider problem.

I’m certainly no expert in all things Georgia elections, but what I am an expert on is the election denial movement here — and how they have completely manhandled the SEB to get their way. When you see a headline like those from yesterday declaring that the SEB is passing rules favored by election deniers, what you must understand is that it’s not the SEB who is coming up with those rules, but the election deniers themselves.
