Executive orders: Trump's personal army, abandoning Afghan war heroes, more expensive prescriptions
Even a cursory look at some of Trump's executive orders exposes coming catastrophe and chaos.
As Jason Koebler wrote today, “decentralized media” like this newsletter is going to be crucial to getting accurate, fact-based information in an era dominated by tech oligarchs and political authoritarians. That’s because I can send American Doom directly to you, my subscribers, instead of relying on X, Facebook, Tik Tok or elsewhere for you to see my reporting.
To help support my reporting, I encourage you to sign up for a paid subscription. It’s the best way to support the independent journalism I’ll be producing—fact-based investigations and news that are going to be crucial to cutting through the chaos of the coming days, weeks, months and years.
That’s why I’m offering an Inauguration Special—a 20 percent discount on annual subscriptions to American Doom, from $50 a year to $40. This gets you access to all paywalled posts containing exclusive reporting, past posts that contain exclusive findings on election denial officials working across the country, subscriber live chats for big events like today, and audio versions of posts for those times when you don’t have the time to read but still want to keep with the news. I hope you’ll join me. And as always, you can also buy me a cup of coffee at the Doom Coffee Fund if you prefer a one-time contribution.
For current paid subscribers, you can help spread the word about American Doom by referring a friend through the button below. Refer five friends and you’ll get three months of Doom free; 10 referrals gets you six months and 20 referrals gets you a year.
Now, on to the news…

The chaotic and history-altering effects of Donald Trump’s second presidency have already begun, and are unsurprisingly harming some of the most vulnerable in our society.
Meanwhile, some of the people whose voices we heard loud and clear on Jan. 6, 2021 are being rewarded for their traitorous attempt to overthrow the 2020 election. And already, a constitutional catastrophe is brewing that will test the strength of American democracy in a way we haven’t seen in generations.
In Juárez, migrants who played by the rules and attempted to enter the country legally are now stranded, their appointments made through the Biden administration’s CBP One app now non-existent. That’s because of a Trump executive order that cancelled the app, leaving migrants to navigate the byzantine and overworked immigration court system that has more than three million cases pending. These migrants are among the marginalized communities feeling the wrath of Trump and the Americans who voted for him.
Also among those who will feel the vengeance of Trump and his supporters are those on Medicare and Medicaid. That’s because another Trump executive order rescinded a Biden administration plan to lower the cost of prescription drugs through the programs. Other executive orders are meant to arbitrarily target certain communities, like Muslims. The “Foreign Terrorists” executive order is effectively a new edition of the Muslim ban that Trump kicked off his first administration with. Except this time, the plan also includes a provision that seeks to stifle the speech of anyone who would “preach or call for sectarian violence, the overthrow or replacement of the culture on which our constitutional Republic stands, or who provide aid, advocacy or support to foreign terrorists.”
Surely, we’d all be for that, right? But let’s pay particular attention to the line that addresses the “replacement of the culture on which our constitutional Republic stands.” Who, other than pro-Palestinian protesters, could that possibly apply to? This seems to be the intent of the order — to single out this bloc of people and possibly deport them.
